Some 2012 ideas

Starting a new year brings about resolutions, tossing of old items and the likes that correspond with a fresh start.  I do not even bother jotting down the things I want to do in the new year, like working out more, staying more organized or keeping the house clean on a daily basis.  I do make a mental note of these things.  However, what really gets me inspired for the new year are projects around the home.  Whether big (complete redecorating of a room) or small (updating a new fixture), it is these overall changes that make our homes even more enjoyable.

So in the spirit of 2012, here is just a sampling of what I would like to accomplish this upcoming year.

- Paint our boring oak kitchen cabinets gray.  To that end we will also need to update our counters, appliances and lightning.  This is probably our biggest task this year but starting with painting the cabinets will get the ball rolling on the other to do's in the kitchen.

- Stencil something!  I have been eyeing our front entry or downstairs bathroom for this project.  I would do wallpaper but I like the idea of not having to fully commit.  I can just paint over it, if and when I change my mind.

- Create a gallery wall in the loft/playroom that will showcase the kids artwork, but at the same time not look like we run a nursery.

These are just a few things I want to accomplish this year.  Of course, there are smaller things like repainting furniture and refurbishing chairs that I have on my radar, but are minor compared to probably the biggest project this year...renovating the kitchen.  I better get a move on as we are already into the second week of January 2012.

You'll be so happy when you finish painting your kitchen cabinets!  We painted our oak cabinets black a couple years ago and it made the old counters look new.  So maybe you won't need new counters after all:).  It took us a year to complete the project...not because it actually took that long, but because we never blocked out the time to finish it off.  We are a bit slow around here:).  If you can block off a couple weekends, you'd probably knock it out!  I hope to post the before and after of our kitchen sometime.  I'll let you know when I do.

Good luck!  Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Love your ideas!  Cannot wait to see the kitchen redone and the cabinets in gray!  Great inspiration photos!
